One Scent, Every Space: How Global Brands Turn Perfume into Home and Car Fragrance – 2026 Market Study

Market Study · Fragrance Trends 2026 · B2B

Seven global brands already sell one scent as a perfume, a home fragrance and a car fragrance. We verified who does it, what the 2026 data says about the trend, and what it takes to build such a range.

Summary

Short answer: yes, this is a confirmed market direction. Carrying one scent from the skin into the home and the car has moved from a niche idea to the assortment strategy of global brands. We verified seven of them — Bath & Body Works, Rituals, Jo Malone London, Guerlain, Acqua di Parma, Byredo and Diptyque — that sell the same named scent as a personal fragrance, a home fragrance and a car fragrance. Guerlain added a car diffuser in 2026.

The strategy rides on the strongest category in beauty. Fragrance is the fastest-growing beauty category worldwide, and new home fragrances increasingly borrow the codes of fine perfumery. What is not yet public: how many consumers buy the same scent in all three formats.

Key findings

  1. Seven global brands verified. From mass-premium retailers (Bath & Body Works, Rituals) to luxury houses within The Estée Lauder Companies, LVMH and Puig, the same scent name now runs across body, home and car (Table 1).
  2. Luxury is still moving in. Guerlain (LVMH) launched candles and a car diffuser in its six Guerlinade scents in January 2026.14 Kilian Paris (The Estée Lauder Companies) entered home fragrance in fall 2025.35 The movement also runs the other way: home brand Nest New York made fine fragrance about 75% of its 2026 launches.37
  3. Fragrance drives beauty growth. McKinsey expects fragrance to grow 6% a year through 2030.25 In the US, fragrance sales rose 6% in prestige and 15% in mass in the first half of 2026 (Circana).28
  4. Home fragrance is becoming perfumery. Innova lists “Personified Perfumery” among the top household trends,29 and “long-lasting” is now the top claim, used in 58% of new air fragrance launches.30
  5. Growth sits in premium. US mass air fresheners and candles were mostly flat,31 while premium brands drove air care growth in Poland in 2025 (Euromonitor).32
  6. The car is the next room. The car air freshener market is estimated at USD 2.9 billion in 2025, with 6.1% annual growth forecast to 2035 (GMI).33
  7. The evidence has limits. The trend is proven in brand assortments and launches. Cross-purchase data — how many consumers buy one scent in all three formats — is not yet published.

1. What a cross-format scent strategy is

A cross-format scent strategy — at ELiX we call it Perfume Around You — takes one fragrance composition and offers it in the formats people use in different places:

  • On the skin: eau de parfum, eau de toilette, cologne or body mist.
  • At home: candles, reed diffusers, room sprays, plug-ins.
  • In the car: vent diffusers and hanging fresheners.

The scent, not the product type, becomes the unit of the range. The customer chooses a scent first, then decides where to use it.

In this study, “the same scent” means the same scent name and a recognizable character declared by the brand. It does not mean an identical formula. Perfume on skin, a candle and a car diffuser release fragrance differently and fall under different safety rules. Perfumers therefore rebalance the composition for each carrier. Good cross-format work keeps the signature recognizable; it does not copy the formula one-to-one.

Diagram: a single fragrance composition is adapted into three formats — skin, home and car — each with a rebalanced version of the same scent. Table 1. Global brands selling one named scent as a personal, home and car fragrance. Verified on official brand or authorized retailer pages, 23 October 2026. Availability varies by country.

Mass-premium retailers: the scent organizes the store

Bath & Body Works is the clearest case of scale. Its Mahogany Teakwood collection runs from cologne to candles, room spray, Wallflowers refills and a car fragrance refill, and continues into body care and laundry.1 The company reported net sales of USD 7,291 million for the fiscal year ended 31 January 2026, flat year on year (−0.2%).2

Rituals is the key European reference. The Ritual of Sakura combines a hair & body mist with a candle, fragrance sticks, car air fresheners, a car perfume spray and a softener-and-scent-booster.3, 4, 5 Rituals reported EUR 2.43 billion revenue in 2025, up 16%, and almost 10 million refills sold, up 22%.6 Note that Sakura’s personal format is a body mist, not an eau de parfum: the model works across concentration levels.

Luxury houses: the perfume moves into the room and the car

Jo Malone London. The Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne page itself recommends the room spray, the candle and the car diffuser refill.7 The reed diffuser and the car refill carry the same name.8, 9 Jo Malone London is now a billion-dollar brand within The Estée Lauder Companies, where fragrance delivered 10% net sales growth in fiscal 2026.10

Guerlain. In January 2026, Guerlain extended L’Art & La Matière into a lifestyle range of candles, soaps and a car diffuser, “each offered in six Guerlinade scents.”14 Vanille Planifolia, for example, exists as a 30%-concentration extrait, a refillable candle and a car diffuser insert.11, 12, 13

Acqua di Parma. Arancia di Capri is sold as an eau de toilette, a home diffuser and a refill for the Andiamo car diffuser.15, 16, 17 All three list the same notes: orange, mandarin and lemon; petitgrain and cardamom; caramel and musk. It is the strongest public evidence of continuity of composition across formats in this study.

Byredo. Byredo now offers its best-known scents as car diffuser refills, among them Bibliothèque,18, 19 which the house also sells as an eau de parfum and a candle.

Diptyque. 34 Boulevard Saint Germain, named after the address of Diptyque’s first boutique, exists as an eau de toilette, a room spray and an insert that fits both Diptyque’s electric home diffuser and its car diffuser.20, 21, 22

The partnership model

Not every brand builds this in-house. Lolita Lempicka’s home and car collection is made with home-fragrance specialist Maison Berger Paris. It includes fragrance lamps, candles, car diffusers and even a laundry wash.23 It illustrates a common route: a perfume brand working with a separate specialist for the home and car formats.

3. Is it a trend? What the data says

3.1 Fragrance is the growth engine of beauty

NielsenIQ calls fragrance “the fastest-growing beauty category globally, outperforming skincare, haircare, and cosmetics” (July 2026).24 McKinsey’s State of Beauty 2026 forecasts fragrance growth of 6% a year to 2030, the most dynamic of all categories,25 and notes that fragrance has overtaken color cosmetics to become the third-largest beauty category.26 Euromonitor expects fragrance to account for 23% of beauty’s absolute growth between 2024 and 2029.27

The growth is real but normalizing. In the US, Circana recorded fragrance sales up 6% in prestige and 15% in mass in the first half of 2026.28

3.2 Home fragrance is becoming perfumery

Innova Market Insights lists “Personified Perfumery” among its top household trends: home fragrances “are evolving beyond traditional ‘fresh’ and ‘green’ scents,” reflecting “the personal choices, emotions, and imagination of consumers.”29 Newer Innova data show air fragrance launches growing at a 23% CAGR from July 2021 to June 2026. “Long-lasting” appears in 58% of new launches, and refillable or reusable formats in 16%.30

The industry says the same. According to Febreze (P&G), consumers are increasingly drawn to scents that feel more sophisticated and mirror fine fragrances. Nest New York’s CMO observes that “the lines between home fragrance and fine fragrance continue to blur.”31 Sara Clasen of The Estée Lauder Companies sees the same pattern: “Brands are seeing home, bath and body as an extension of what is happening in fragrances in general.”35

Value follows quality. In the US, mass-market air fresheners and candles were “mostly flat at $4.3 billion and $2.5 billion, respectively” (Circana data).31 In Poland, Euromonitor reports that premium brands drove air care growth in 2025.32 The opportunity is not more air freshener. It is better scent.

3.3 The car becomes a second living room

GMI estimates the car air freshener market at USD 2.9 billion in 2025 and forecasts 6.1% annual growth to USD 5.2 billion in 2035, with Europe holding 22.5% of the market. The same report points to demand for premium diffusers and luxury fragrance collections for cars and describes ElixScent as “a manufacturer of luxury automotive fragrances.”33

Luxury houses have reached the same conclusion: Guerlain, Byredo, Acqua di Parma, Diptyque and Jo Malone London all sell car formats of their perfumes (Table 1). As Renee Stuart, founder and co-CEO of Maison&Muse, puts it, consumers “now treat it as a second living room.”34

3.4 Consumers build scent wardrobes — and want them everywhere

McKinsey describes consumers “creating ‘fragrance cocktails’ by layering scents and wearing different scents throughout the day.”26 Kilian Hennessy frames his brand’s home launch the same way: “a way to layer the scents that they like for different occasions of their lives.”36 The fragrance wardrobe does not contradict the cross-format idea. It extends it from the skin to every space the consumer controls.

“Mists, lotions, hair and body sprays, home and car fragrances are all part of the same ritual. Static signature scents will give way to signature scent profiles built across categories.”

— Renee Stuart, founder and co-CEO, Maison&Muse, in Beauty Independent, December 202534

3.5 What the evidence does not show

  • No public study yet measures how many consumers buy one scent in body, home and car formats.
  • Launch counts measure what brands do, not what shoppers buy.
  • Cross-format ranges do not guarantee growth by themselves: Bath & Body Works, the largest example, was flat in fiscal 2025.2

Our assessment: a confirmed strategy trend among global brands, from mass-premium retail to the luxury groups. Growth is concentrated in premium, perfume-grade scent for the home and the car. Cross-purchase volumes are not yet published, so brands that build a scent-led range now can set the reference in their own markets.

4. Why it is hard to do well

A cross-format range typically means coordinating several specialists: a fine-fragrance producer, a home-fragrance producer and a car-fragrance producer. Each must keep the same scent recognizable in a different carrier. Each brings its own documentation. Every handover adds risk to consistency, timelines and compliance.

The technical challenge is real. Alcohol-based perfume on skin, diffuser liquids, wax and porous carriers such as wood or paper release top, heart and base notes at different rates. A composition that works on skin must be rebalanced for each carrier to stay recognizable.

5. HIKARI Perfume Around You: how ELiX implements it

At ELiX we saw this shift early — and built a range around it. HIKARI Perfume Around You takes one composition into two worlds: eau de parfum for the skin and perfume fresheners for the home and the car. Your customer can have a favorite scent everywhere, not only on the skin.

One composition, developed as fine fragrance first

Every HIKARI composition starts as a fine-fragrance formulation at Aroma Formulation Labs, our laboratory in Wrocław. It builds on scent directions consumers already know and love, developed into original HIKARI compositions. The home and car fresheners use the same HIKARI compositions as the perfumes. HIKARI contains no odor neutralizers: only perfumery.

  • HIKARI Eau de Parfum, 50 ml — the signature on the skin.
  • HIKARI Car Perfume, 5 ml — a glass flacon with a natural wooden cap that releases the scent gradually.
  • HIKARI Texture — a line of hanging fresheners with the look of stone, wood or leather that adds elegance to car interiors and rooms.
  • What comes next — new HIKARI formats are already in development. Some of them will surprise even experienced buyers.

See the HIKARI Perfume Around You range

What makes the approach different is where the formats are made. The perfume and the fresheners are not sourced from different suppliers and matched afterward. They are created together: one lab, one production site, one certified quality system.

6. Two ways to bring it to your shelf

  1. A ready range: HIKARI Perfume Around You. Distribute a finished cross-format collection under HIKARI’s own registered name, logo and packaging. A sample set is available before your first order. About HIKARI · Become a HIKARI partner
  2. Your own brand. Launch Perfume Around You under your label: white label based on the ELiX fragrance library, or a custom scent developed exclusively for you, in every format. Private label at ELiX

One partner, one file. Development, production and documentation for eau de parfum and air fresheners come from one company and one site in Wrocław, EU:

  • BRCGS Consumer Products certification whose scope covers all ELiX product categories, including eau de parfum and air fresheners.
  • ISO 22716 cosmetics good manufacturing practice.
  • IFRA conformity and CLP/REACH documentation for every format.
  • Made to order — every batch is produced fresh for your order.

Retailers and brands who also sell laundry fragrance can source it from the same facility.

7. Frequently asked questions

What is a “Perfume Around You” fragrance strategy?

It is a range built around one fragrance composition offered in several formats — a personal fragrance for the skin, a home fragrance and a car fragrance — under the same scent name. The scent, not the product type, is the unit of the range.

Which global brands sell the same scent as perfume, home and car fragrance?

As verified on 23 October 2026: Bath & Body Works (Mahogany Teakwood), Rituals (The Ritual of Sakura), Jo Malone London (Lime Basil & Mandarin), Guerlain (L’Art & La Matière, e.g. Vanille Planifolia), Acqua di Parma (Arancia di Capri), Byredo (Bibliothèque) and Diptyque (34 Boulevard Saint Germain).

Is one scent for body, home and car a real market trend?

Yes, at the level of brand strategy and launches. Fragrance is the fastest-growing beauty category globally (NIQ, 2026), home fragrance launches increasingly use fine-fragrance codes (Innova), and Guerlain added a car diffuser to its perfume line in 2026. Public data on how many consumers buy the same scent in all three formats does not yet exist.

Is the formula identical in a perfume and an air freshener?

No. The scent name and character stay the same, but the composition is rebalanced for each carrier — alcohol on skin, diffuser liquid, wax, wood or paper — and for the IFRA and EU rules that apply to each product type.

Which EU regulations apply to perfume and to home and car fresheners?

Eau de parfum is a cosmetic product under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, including the expanded fragrance-allergen labelling of Regulation (EU) 2023/1545. Home and car fresheners are mixtures under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008; the new CLP label-format rules apply from 1 January 2028. IFRA Standards apply to all formats.

Can I launch a cross-format scent range under my own brand?

Yes. ELiX develops and manufactures eau de parfum and home and car fresheners in one facility in Wrocław, Poland — as white label from its fragrance library or as a custom exclusive scent — under BRCGS Consumer Products and ISO 22716 certification.

What is HIKARI Perfume Around You?

It is ELiX’s own range that carries one HIKARI composition from eau de parfum into car and home fresheners: HIKARI Eau de Parfum 50 ml, HIKARI Car Perfume 5 ml with a natural wooden cap and the HIKARI Texture hanging fresheners. It is available for distribution, and new formats are in development.

8. Methodology and disclosure

Scope. We reviewed brands of global scale, defined as brands owned by a major international beauty or luxury group or operating an international retail network. Mid-size and regional brands were excluded.

Inclusion rule. A brand qualified when its official website, or an authorized retailer, showed one scent name as a personal fragrance, a home fragrance and a car fragrance. Brands with two of the three formats were excluded from Table 1.

Verification. All product pages, reports and articles cited were opened and checked on 23 October 2026. A few brand websites block automated access; those products were confirmed through the brand’s indexed official pages and authorized retailers. Several products were temporarily sold out online at the time of checking; availability varies by country.

Market data. Figures come from NielsenIQ, McKinsey, Euromonitor, Circana, Innova Market Insights and GMI as published. Market-size estimates from research vendors are estimates, not audited figures.

Disclosure: ELiX develops and manufactures fragrance products, including the HIKARI Perfume Around You range described in section 5. Brand names cited belong to their owners and are used only to describe publicly available products.
