What are professional scenting oils?

Professional scenting oils are concentrated fragrance and essential oil compositions formulated to run in commercial diffusers rather than in a home reed or candle. In a cold-air (nebulising) diffuser the oil is broken into a dry micro-mist by air pressure alone — no heat, no water, no aerosol propellant. Nothing dilutes the composition and nothing burns it, so the scent that reaches the room is the scent that was built in the laboratory.

This is why the oil, not the machine, decides what a space smells like. Diffuser hardware has converged: the same handful of nebulising units appear under a dozen brand names. The formulation is where the difference in a hotel lobby, a boutique or a gym actually comes from — and it is where ELiX concentrates.

Essential oil or fragrance oil — which does your project need?

The two are often used interchangeably in commercial scenting, and they are not the same thing.

Neither is better in the abstract — they answer different briefs. A wellness operator whose whole positioning is natural needs genuine essential oils. A retail chain that wants the same scent in forty stores for five years needs the reproducibility of a perfumery composition. ELiX manufactures both, which means the recommendation you get from us is not steered by what we happen to make.

Odour neutralisation before scenting

Scenting a space that still smells of the gym, the kitchen extract or the washroom does not produce a signature scent — it produces both smells at once, and customers notice. Odorano® works on the malodour itself rather than covering it, which makes it the first step in most commercial installations and a recurring line item afterwards. In practice: neutralise, establish a clean baseline, then scent.

Private label and OEM scenting oils

Two routes, depending on how far you want to go:

White label — an existing ELiX composition in your bottle, with your label and your brand. Typical time to market: around two months.

Custom project — an exclusive composition developed to your brief, with bespoke packaging. Our perfumers work from a reference scent, a mood board, a brand description or the character of the space itself, and iterate until it is right.

Typical private-label programmes we build:

1. A branded oil range for a scenting company already selling diffusers, so the consumable carries your name instead of a supplier’s.
2. A signature scent developed for one end client — a hotel group, a retail chain, a developer — and reserved for them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an essential oil and a fragrance oil?

An essential oil is distilled or expressed from plant material; a fragrance oil is composed by a perfumer from natural and synthetic materials. Essential oils are limited to scents plants produce and vary with harvest; fragrance oils offer an unlimited palette and reproduce exactly batch after batch. ELiX manufactures both.

Can I use any oil in a cold-air diffuser?

No. Cold-air nebulising diffusers require oils formulated for pressure atomisation. Water-based, heavily diluted or carrier-heavy oils intended for ultrasonic or heated diffusers can clog the nozzle and will not atomise correctly. All ELiX scenting oils are formulated for cold-air diffusion.

Are ELiX oils compatible with diffusers from other manufacturers?

Yes. They are formulated for ELiX cold-air diffusers and for the standard nebulising systems already widely available on the market.

What sizes do you supply?

50 ml, 120 ml and 1 L. The 1 L format is intended for refill and subscription programmes and for larger installations.

Do you manufacture 100% natural essential oils?

Yes. The Natural Scenting line is 100% natural essential oils with no synthetic fragrance, for spas, wellness and naturally positioned brands.

Can you develop an exclusive signature scent for our brand or our client?

Yes. Our in-house perfumers develop exclusive compositions from a brief, and the finished scent remains reserved for your programme.

How does an odour neutraliser differ from an air freshener?

An air freshener adds a scent on top of an existing smell. Odorano® acts on the malodour at the source, which is why it is used to establish a clean baseline before a space is scented rather than as a scent in its own right.

Are your oils IFRA-compliant and REACH/CLP-documented?

Yes. Every product is manufactured in the EU to BRC GS and ISO standards, is IFRA-compliant and comes with REACH/CLP documentation and a safety data sheet.

Do you offer private label and contract manufacturing?

Yes — white label using an existing composition with your branding, or a full custom project with an exclusive scent and bespoke packaging.

What is the minimum order quantity?

How long does a first order take?

White label programmes typically reach market in about two months. Custom compositions take longer, depending on how many iterations the scent needs.
